It's fine the way it is. Seriously, this place does not need to turn into /r/Teslore.

But if you must change it into something...

"Unofficial Lore" or "Out of Game Lore"

The former is what they identify it as during the 3rd oblivion fan interview. The latter is what the UESP uses, and it works very well for them.

Ok, Vel. Let's examine this. Why has it become a crusade? Is it simply because you align with the open source nature of Bethesda and their approach to lore, or are you deeply offended by something I have missed? I don't see it all, dude, sometimes I'm off chasing gods know what for gods know what reason. Haven't added anything of value in forever and haven't even bothered adding tags to the stuff I did do, so lost did I become. I'm pretty sure I did another dossier at some point but I couldn't be bothered to add it to the archives apparently.

So on some level I kinda feel glad that someone cares enough about this page to agitate for change. We worked hard to get it looking nice and FishDout's banners are epic. Yet I lost faith a loooooong time ago that anyone actually gave a tusk.

So, as it stands I am unlikely to do anything about it personally. Much easier to destroy than create, will happily wield the Razor again in Dagon's holy name and destroy the whole tusking lot. Yet I won't, not just mine, see.

So here is what I propose. Start a discussion, add an offsite poll, get community feedback, present to Karver or I. If he's happy then I am content and the name will be changed. Fair? Sounds like hard work but you may drum up support for it and give me the boot up the ass I need to get cataloguing again.

But surely changing the name won't make that big of a difference? It's not like we would be presenting the section any differently.

Comment by Phil on June 17, 2016 at 7:18pm

It's a can of worms Velly. Much of Tower lore comes from oog sources and so are by the site's definition non-canon. If you were to post an article about towers using only in-game sources then your work would be housed elsewhere in the Archives. You can sprinkle in oog sources in any project as long as the reader knows and can make their own mind up as to the source's value.

When those topics currently housed under Non-Canon were posted, it was the author's wish they should live there. Shor Son of Shor is one of my favourite books in TES. Yet even I must acknowledge that as it doesn't appear in-game for many people it would be seen as non-non-canon no matter how spot on it is.

Comment by x on June 17, 2016 at 6:25pm

I don't think changing the name will make much difference, it's still just the section where people post their interpretations on parts of the lore that have no official answers. Just don't think "non-canon" is accurate beacuse things like the Towers, Stones and CHIM are straight up mentioned in the games.

My opinions are simply my opinions and although I feel it sends the totally wrong message, I also know many people value the framework of lore and dislike stepping outside its boundaries. That is totally right and proper too, far be it for me to tell them otherwise.

That's fine. I'll do it.

Comment by Phil on June 17, 2016 at 6:13pm

Hmm. Like that one. Remember though gents that it must be easily understood by those less familiar. As fun as it is and as much as I would love to go all Mehrunes on the very concept of canon, as it stands now at least it is easily and instantly understood.

How about "Apographa" what the Nerevarine Cult priests call "Hidden Writing".

Comment by Tom on June 17, 2016 at 5:54pm

Or lore not otherwise confirmed by Bethesda yet.

Comment by Tom on June 17, 2016 at 5:53pm

C0da's are alternate endings. Monkey Lore is non-canonical lore either partially or totally fan made.

Comment by x on June 17, 2016 at 5:50pm

How about just c0da?

Comment by Tom on June 17, 2016 at 5:50pm

Imga Truth implies Elves are right about anything, and Marukh's Doctrines are about fundamental Akatosh worship. Monkey Lore sounds great to me.

Comment by Phil on June 17, 2016 at 5:34pm

The Imga Truth? Or, Marukh's Doctrines?

Comment by Tom on June 17, 2016 at 5:15pm

Call it Monkey Lore or Truth.

Comment by Phil on June 17, 2016 at 4:42pm

I would feel... happy? Ever have I hated that word as it applies to ES. It is a chain around the ankle of creativity for many. Bethesda is a company who actively encourage user created content and it extends right to lore level. With Lawrence Schick making comments about how a character's in game views should be no less valid than any book or npc, to the new oog and ig books which often reinterpret the things we have come to consider "facts".

Tamriel is a land of myth. What is canon where myth is concerned and more to the point, does it matter?

Comment by x on June 17, 2016 at 3:38pm

Question: How would people feel about renaming the "Non-Canon" section?

Talos totally is an Aedra if Lorkhan can be counted as one.

Beautiful, but Talos isn't an Aedra.
